Organic chicken, organic ketchup, organic cakes … the “organic” has invaded supermarkets, becoming a “fashion” above all. But why should we eat organic? What are the benefits of organic food? Here’s a little overview of the benefits we can get from organic food.

# 1 Eat organic Allows Us To Eat More Saintly

Eating organic food means eating foods with more vitamins and minerals than many products from traditional agriculture.

  • Organic peppers contain more antioxidants (vitamin C, carotene, flavonoids) than peppers that are not organic.
  • Organic products (wheat, lentils, honey, eggs) contain more iron but less zinc and copper than conventional ones.
  • The meat (example: lamb) is better in organic: more unsaturated AG and omega 3.

# 2 We Consume Less Pesticides

Reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have shown that organic products have lower levels of nitrates and pesticide residues than non-organic products. (1)

# 3 Organic Food is more tasty

It is very difficult to prove scientifically that food has more taste and, let’s be honest, this is not striking for all products. But this is true for fruits and vegetables. Indeed, fruits and vegetables from organic vegetable crops, are harvested more mature than their conventional counterparts and therefore have time to concentrate in aromas, resulting in a tastier taste. In addition, field-grown foods grow with the sun, morning dew, and draw their nutrients and water from the soil, as opposed to the intensive agriculture foods that are increasingly grown above ground or grown on soils. “Dead” due to the use of pesticides. In the end, they have less water, more vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

# 4 It’s Good For The Environment 

Organic farming protects the soil and limits erosion. Massive use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers kills soil and all biodiversity. As a result, compact and lifeless soils are found, creating erosion in the first shower. Similarly, the farmer does not use chemical fertilizers and alternates crops on the same plot. Organic farming also preserves water. By choosing varieties adapted to local conditions, or less greedy in water, organic requires less irrigation and therefore less water. Unlike conventional agriculture, irrigation of intensive monocultures such as maize or soybeans releases water polluted by synthetic chemicals and nitrates into the soil. Finally, organic farming acts daily for biodiversity: While the rate of disappearance of living species is currently 1000 times higher than before the industrial era, organic uses local varieties and breeds, old, sometimes almost disappeared makes it possible to maintain a certain biodiversity.

# 5 It’s Not  Cheaper!  

Organic farming certainly requires more time, more labor and lower yields than traditional agriculture. No surprise therefore, the prices of organic products are higher than those of non-organic (we note a reduction in the gap in recent years with the development of organic). However, there are other aspects that, when taken into account, balance the economic balance: – Products from conventional agriculture benefit from subsidies that are funded by taxpayers; – Environmental costs induced by pollution, water treatment, and health costs, as a result of “over-fueled” consumption that is too much developed.

# 6 Protecting the Planet 

We often favor the “small” farmers when we buy organic and we especially favor those who are concerned about QUALITY! Quality for the environment and the biodiversity, quality for the Man and his health, this word become gros-word by the current times, that should be put back in the center of the plate.

# 7 Eating Organic, It’s Certified  

The only way to verify this certification is the presence of the Organic Agriculture label on packaging. Issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, it certifies that 95% of their ingredients are of biological origin. Every farmer with this certification will be checked out once a year.

# 8 Eat Less GMO

There is no need to explain what GMOs are, these wonderful tools that allow once we kill the soil to create plants that grow against all odds. Note that labeling indicating the presence of GMOs is mandatory for products with a composition greater than 0.9%.

# 9 You Learn The Existence Of Lots Of Food 

Organic Food has become more popular in the last 10 years and today, we find organic food everywhere. We will still prefer to buy its products on organic markets or producers who prefer short circuits for people living in the countryside. There are dozens of foods that we do not even suspect exist, flours or other unknown vegetables for the common mortal accustomed to cooked dishes.
