Rosemary has cosmetic properties as well as nutritive benefits that make it useful for the health of the body.

Rosemary has different properties that give us good health and therapeutic, which distinguish this herb. Beside its health and beauty benefits it has certain side effects as well. Let’s discuss some of its health and beauty benefits along with its side effects.

Introduction 

The scientific name of this plant – of which there are several varieties is “Rosmarinus officinalis” . It belongs to the mint family known as Lamiaceae and it is known since the Middle Ages: in fact, the rosemary was known from the Greeks, the Romans and Egyptians – who considered this herb as a symbol of eternity and they place Rosemary in the tombs of pharaohs – and used to disinfect the sick rooms, heal toothache and used this herb during exorcisms as well as for perfume and keep it in drawers and wardrobes to get rid of moths to make them away from clothes. Rosemary contains essential oils, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids and other beneficial substances of antioxidant properties, that are able to neutralize free radicals and premature aging.

In beauty products, rosemary is used for deodorant, toning and cleansing due to its properties.

Health Benefits

Rosemary is very useful against leathery fats and when menstrual flow is abundant.

The presence of carnosic acid, on the contrary, gives the properties to rosemary to fight against free radicals and therefore, the prevention of cerebral aging. According to recent studies, rosemary improves blood circulation; it contributes to the health benefits for eyes.

Make a delicious rosemary tea infusion by placing some fresh rosemary into a tea ball or muslin bag and allow it to infuse in a mug for about 10 minutes. If you have a tea pot just pour boiling water on the fresh herb and then strain off when ready (this allows more of the leave to infuse, which is actually better). Crush or bruise some the leaves beforehand to release more of the oils and allow for a more potent, rich flavour.

Rosemary has cleansing and detoxifying properties for the liver; it helps to improve digestion and relieve bloating, ventral spasms, vertigo, loss of appetite and other intestinal disorders of various kinds.

The essential oil of Rosemary can be used for bathing due to its aphrodisiac properties. It is best to massage Rosemary essential oil on hair, as it strengthens them and eliminate dandruff, it stimulates regrowth and prevents hair loss and baldness.

The essential oil of rosemary has, then, strong actions as antibacterial, antiseptic and energize the body and the spirit: rosemary is, therefore, a great natural remedy against depression, fatigue and stress.

Mouthwash made with a few drops of essential oil of rosemary fight toothache; while, for external use, essential oils relieve headache and rheumatic and articular pains.

Side Effects

Finally, there is in particular the side effects link with the extra consumption and the use of rosemary. It is necessary, however, not to take it in higher doses in order to avoid gastric problems. It should be taken with extreme care in case of high pressure and insomnia and should not be consumed in pregnancy or if suffering from epilepsy.
