For most people, apple cider vinegar is stored in the kitchen’s cupboard. Yet over time, this ingredient has become essential in our medicine cabinets, rightly or wrongly. Let’s do a check in.
What is apple cider vinegar?
We are talking about fermented apple cider vinegar. Under the action of bacteria and yeasts, exposure of the liquid to the air promotes the production of acetic acid. In order to take full advantage of its benefits, opt for unpasteurized organic cider vinegar, produced in a traditional way. It must have aged for at least 10 months in oak casks to contain the maximum of active substances.
What are the benefits of Apple cider vinegar?
Thanks to its antibacterial properties. It prevents the microbes from accumulating in the intestines and reduces the sensations of bloating. It has been used as a detox for flat stomach by women in North Africa for long time. However, the benefits of taking apple cider vinegar for treatment have never been scientifically proven.
To test cider vinegar for detox, add 2 teaspoons with 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey in a glass of warm water. Drink this mixture each morning, preferably on an empty stomach, for a month.
2- Sore Throat
Thanks to its antiseptic power, apple cider vinegar can be used to fight sore throats.
Tip: Pour 4 teaspoons of cider vinegar into a large glass of warm water and make gargles.
A study conducted in 2010 (1) showed that the addition of a certain amount of vinegar (about 15 ml to 30 ml) to a meal containing carbohydrates would reduce the response of glucose and insulin in the blood 30 to 60 minutes after eating the meal. It is the acetic acid present in the vinegar which effects. The increase of the proportion of acetic acid in the vinegar brings a more reduction of the glycemia and the insulinemia.
4- Improve Digestion
Taking Apple cider vinegar helps stimulate digestion and renew intestinal flora. In case of diarrhea, the body loses liquid and vital minerals. Apple cider vinegar, a mild and re-mineralising bactericide, promotes the development of the intestinal flora and regulates the transit.
In case of difficulty in digestion, dilute 2 teaspoons of Apple cider vinegar in a large cup of hot water. You can add 2 teaspoons of honey for the taste. Drink this mixture half an hour before the meal.
Apple cider vinegar soothes skin irritations. Apply it directly to mosquito bites or chiggers.
6- To compensate lost in mineral salts
The American doctor DeForest Clinton Jarvis, author of the bestseller “These old remedies that heal”, convinced of the benefits of apple cider vinegar, created the “Jarvis cocktail”.
The recipe is simple:
Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 250 milliliters of mineral water rich in sodium. Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of honey.
7- An ally for weight loss
Apple cider vinegar can help you lose weight. Here’s why: Acetic Acid suppresses your appetite, increases your metabolism and decreases water retention. Some researchers think that apple cider vinegar interferes with digestion of starch by the digestive system. This means that there are fewer calories entering your bloodstream.
What are the risks of cider vinegar?
